About iPodTopics.com

So Want to Know About the People Behind the Curtains?

iPodTopics.com was originally launched in August of 2006 as a forum dedicated to helping people with their iPods. After six months in operation, we felt that moving iPodTopics.com to a news and editorial format best suited our current and future community members.

Today, iPodTopics.com is the quintessential new media site for iPod news, iPod Reviews, iPod assistance, iTunes, iPhone, and all other topics involving the iPod. Part of the Sayers Media Group family of new media sites, iPodTopics.com is dedicated to bringing you the latest news, freshest editorial content, and insightful assistance for the legions of iPod fans.

There is no “I” in TEAM

Here is merely a glimpse inside the minds of the team behind iPodTopics.com.

ThomasGarrett Smith: I have been a fan of Apple products since I started playing Oregon Trail on the Apple IIe in the elementary school library. To this day I still love my iMac 333Mhz special edition that I used throughout college. When I finally purchased my first iPod, I fell in love with Apple for a third time. I began writing online over a year ago, and although I am not writer by trade, I have found that anyone, with basic English skills and an interesting mind can produce awesome news and editiorial pieces. For me, iPodTopics.com is a way to extend my daily conversations with friends and colleagues about the iPod to a whole new community, and hopefully, in the process make some new friends and colleagues. Currently, I am responsible for the editorial direction, sales, marketing, and strategy of iPodTopics.com. Don’t be a stranger, introduce yourself in the comments below!

ThomasThomas Marks: I am a designer who hates to write. I live in the Elmwood Village in Buffalo, NY and love every minute of it. I am a huge Sabres fan, and you can usually find me in front of the TV or radio during every game, Guinness in hand. iPod’s are never something I thought I would be interested in, but only after recently getting my 30gig Photo iPod, I realized what all the buzz was about. Nothing is as convenient as always having your entire music collection by your side, everywhere and anywhere. This became especially apparent after I realized I would no longer have to continually transfer and sync my music libraries between the computers I use on a daily basis. Even though I hate to write, I love good design, I love technology, and I love telling people about it. These interests supersede my hatred of writing, therefore you may have to suffer through my poorly written, but informative posts from time to time.

Hi, my name’s Dean Mortlock and I’m the Managing Editor of a new UK-based iPod website called iPlay Collective (www.iplaycollective.com). You may have already spotted it, as we’ve been flagged on MacFormat’s blog and also in this month’s magazine. We went beta in the middle of December and have recently gone fully live, hence me contacting you now.

iPlay Collective isn’t planning on stepping on the toes of any existing iPod sites, but rather offer something slightly different to complement them. As you’ll see, we do have a small news section, but our main focus is centred on our ‘Clinic’ (which contains numerous FAQs and tutorials), ‘Masterclass’ (features on developing your iPod’s natural abilities) and the ‘Directory’ (an archive of iPod, video and music-related links, which currently holds over 200 sites). In addition, we also offer free music and video links, which are updated weekly.

To give you a bit of background info, I’ve been writing for various magazines on the subject of digital music since 2000 and have contributed regularly to MacFormat magazine for nearly three years. iPlay Collective is the culmination of two years hard work by myself and two other devoted music and iPod fans, and while I will be the main point of contact, there are plenty of people working behind the scenes to ensure that it remains interesting and informative for its growing number of visitors.

If you are interested in running a news story on the launch of iPlay Collective and would like some further materials, then I’d be very happy to supply any information that would be helpful (including images or logos). You can contact me on dean@iplaycollective.com.

Also, I notice that your site has a link section, so I’d be happy to exchange links, too. Again, contact me if you’re interested.

    Warmest regards,

    Dean
